What is Reiki?

Reiki is a method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century.

The Japanese word Reiki, pronounced Raykey means 'Universal Energy' and is a non-invasive therapy whose purpose is to treat holistically and to restore the body's natural balance.

Reiki's natural healing energy works on every level, not just the physical, and promotes the body's regenerative self healing ability. Reiki energy is described as 'intelligent' in that it knows where healing is required and will work with those areas in the physical, emotional or spiritual level. It works by dissolving and removing toxic energy and substances from many levels and helps create a harmonious environment within us where deep healing can occur.

People experience Reiki in many ways. During a Reiki treatment the energy may be felt as warmth or tingling sensations and a feeling of deep relaxation. It is an excellent way to de-stress, relax and promote self well-being. Please note occasionally some people don't feel anything during a session but all experience some form of deep relaxation and calm.

What are the Benefits?

The energy of Reiki can be used to great effect in many ways. Whether one is suffering from stress or tension, and the many symptoms associated with this, or wishing to improve the quality of relationships at home or work, the beneficial effects of Reiki occur on many levels. Reiki can accelerate the healing of physical problems and balance the emotions. It may also provide a closer connection with inner wisdom and spirituality.

Reiki is a non-invasive therapy that can be used without fear of any side-effects or overdose. It may be used with confidence alongside conventional medication or natural remedies because it acts in a complementary way.

What Happens during a Reiki session?

At a first session we discuss Reiki and I ask for some very brief information about you. The Reiki treatment usually involves you lying down fully clothed. Reiki involves the therapist placing their hands gently and unobtrusively on your body at certain points, some of which correspond to the Chakra energy centres. Each position is maintained for a few minutes and a whole treatment takes about an hour. Most people have one to three sessions and find it an incredibly relaxing process with many unique benefits.
